Mr. Amarjit Singh


Mr. Amarjit Singh is a Senior Advocate with almost 3 decades of experience in Intellectual Property Laws. He has been the Vice President of the Indian chapter of AIPPI, APAA and Intellectual Property Lawyers Association (IPLA), and holds the distinction of being the youngest lawyer to have conducted Intellectual Property related cases in almost every court in India within the first 10 years of his practice.

Mr. Singh has handled over 3000 cases as an arguing counsel in different courts/tribunals for the Enforcement of Trade Mark, Copyright, Industrial Designs and Patent Rights. He is actively associasted with IP litigations in U.S.A., U.K., Germany, Israel, Turkey, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Australia.  Mr. Singh acts as a faculty member of the Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and conducts training for Members of Parliament of developing countries. He is also actively associated with training of Senior Officers of enforcement agencies.

Mr. Singh has been the Founder and Senior Partner of law firm, Anand & Anand, Advocates, New Delhi, specializing in the practice of Intellectual Property laws. There he has been incharge of litigation department – civil as well as criminal. Thereafter Mr. Singh founded his own firm Amarjit & Associates with offices in New Delhi, New York and Zurich.


Mr. Anand Shetty

Mr. Anand Shetty holds a Post Graduate Degree in Organic Chemistry, and is presently working in Hindustan Unilever Limited in its Patents Department at Mumbai. He is a Registered Patent Agent, and a holder of a Post Graduate Diploma in Patent Law and Practice. He deals with a well diversified patent portfolio in his organization, and his field of expertise includes Prior Art Search on various databases, Drafting, Non-Infringement Analysis and Opposition. He is a regular guest-speaker at the Academy, and conducts various clinics there.


Ms. Ashwini Sandu

Ms. Ashwini Sandu completed her Masters in Pharmaceutical Technology from University of Bombay, and holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Patent Law & Practice in which she obtained a distinction. She has successfully completed the Distance Learning course on Patents offered by the World Intellectual Property Organization. She has a rich and varied experience in the Pharmaceutical and FMCG industry in Pharmaceutical production, Research & Development and Intellectual Property. She was associated with Indian and Multinational Companies like Merind Pharmaceuticals (presently merged with Wockhardt), USV Ltd., Marico Industries and ratiopharm India Ltd.

She also has the experience of heading the Mumbai office of S.Majumdar & Co, a leading Patent and Trademark attorney firm. During her tenure there, she handled a multiple portfolio including functions such as search, drafting, prosecution and also opinions and oppositions at Indian patent office. She currently heads the IPR department of United Phosphorus Limited, the leading global producer of generic crop protection products, intermediates, special-use chemicals and other industrial chemicals.

 

Dr. B. N. Roy
Dr. Roy has obtained his PhD in the U.S., and is a leading expert in the field of Synthetic Organic Chemistry. Currently associated with Lupin Laboratories Ltd, he is their Technical Adviser also looking after their research programmes. Dr. Roy handles the Intellectual Property functions of the organization involving novelty studies, drafting, prosecution of patent applications, infringement, opposition and revocation proceedings, litigations, etc.

A speaker at various Patent forums, Dr. Roy regularly contributes papers on patent matters.

Mr. Chander Lall
A Supreme Court Advocate, Mr. Lall also practices in various High Courts in the country. He was the first Indian to be nominated on the Board of Directors of the New York based International Trademarks Association (INTA), and is currently chairperson on the World Wide Anti-Counterfeiting and Enforcement Committee at INTA.

Mr. Lall is author of the book "Trademark Anti-Counterfeiting in Asia and the Pacific Rim", and regularly contributes articles on IP law in many leading publications. He is currently head of the Indian anti-piracy operation of the Motion Picture Association International (MPA) of the leading Hollywood Studios. He also represents a number of Hindi film producers in this regard.

Mr. G. Nataraj
Partner, Subramaniam, Natraj & Associates, New Delhi. Mr. Natraj is a graduate from National Law School of India University, Bangalore, one of the most prestigious law schools in the country. He has a Science background, particularly in physics and chemistry, is an Attorney-at-law and a Registered Patent Agent. In practice for the last seven years out of which six years were with Remfry & Sagar, he is the Partner in charge of Litigation. Dr. Heinz Goddar
Dr. Heinz Goddar is a German Patent Attorney and European Patent and Trademark Attorney. He is a Partner of Boehmert & Boehmert and of Forrester & Boehmert, Munich . He is one of the senior partners of his firm and is particularly involved in international patent and licensing matters, including litigation and arbitration. He is an Associate Judge at the Senate for Patent Attorneys Matters at the German Federal Court of Justice and a Senior Advisor to the German Industrial Investment Council (IIC), Berlin , with a specific responsibility for IIC Life Sciences and Chemical.

Dr. Goddar has a Technical background (as well as PhD degree) in physics and physical chemistry. Before his career as a patent attorney, he was Assistant Professor at the Polymer Department of the University of Mainz, Germany. He presently teaches Patent and Licensing Law as a Lecturer at the University of Bremen, Germany, the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center (MIPLC), Munich , Germany , and as a Visiting Professor at the University of Santa Clara, CA, U.S.A., the University of Washington , Seattle , WA , U.S.A. , and the National ChengChi University , Taipei.

Dr. Goddar is a Past President of LES International and of LES Germany.

Mr. Himanshu Kane
Mr. Kane is a senior Intellectual Property Attorney and Solicitor with almost 30 years of experience. He is a member of the Patent Information System’s Advisory Committee constituted by the Indian Government, and has an active IP practice. He has also been appointed as a Notary by the Maharashtra Government.

Mr. Kane is a first-class degree holder in Science and Law from Bombay University and also a qualified Solicitor (Gold Medallist) from the Bombay Incorporated Law Society.

Mr. H Subramaniam
Mr. H. Subramaniam , holder of a first-class degree in both Science and Law from Delhi University (Gold Medallist), is a leading Intellectual Property Attorney with over 25 years experience.

Mr. Subramaniam has extensive experience in researching scientific documents. He commenced his practice with Remfry & Sagar, one of the oldest Patent and Trademark Attorney firms in the world, and was with them for nearly sixteen years. Mr. Makrand Waikar
Makarand Waikar, a chemical engineer from IIT Kharagpur, has a specialization in biochemical engineering. He also holds post graduate qualifications in management studies.

After a career in the chemical industry, Mr. Waikar ventured into scientific & patent information field in 1992. He has received advanced training in Germany and USA in patents, chemistry, bio-sequences etc. searching, and is currently the representative of Chemical Abstracts Service, Columbus, USA.

Mr. Waikar is a pioneer in introducing scientific training concepts of searching for patent information in India.

Dr. Malathi Lakshmikumaran
Dr. Malathi Lakshmikumaran has a Ph.D in Biochemistry from Poona University. She was awarded the prestigious Fogarty Visiting Research Associateship from National Institute of Health, Bethesda, USA from 1984 to 1985. She was also awarded both the UNESCO Visiting Scientist award and DBT Overseas award in 1992. She was recently awarded the first National Young Women Scientist Award by Department of Biotechnology in March 2000. She is a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad. She has more than 25 years experience in the field of Molecular Biology. She has successfully supervised several Ph.D. students in the area of Biotechnology. She has more than 75 publications to her credit in various International and National journals. She has conducted several workshops on Stakeholders Dialogue on Genetically Modified Plants: Risk and Benefits and DNA fingerprinting of Plants .

At present, she is working in the Law firm Lakshmi Kumaran and Sridharan as a consultant in their Intellectual Property division. Her focus is on patents related to biotechnology, bio-informatics, chemicals and pharmaceuticals. She is also actively involved in the area of plant variety protection. She is a prolific speaker and has delivered several seminars in the area of IPR at several forums.

Dr. Paranjpe P.
A PhD in Organic Chemistry. Dr. Paranjpe was initially a lecturer in Nagpur University. He subsequently served for more than 5 years as an examiner in the Patent Office, and later worked in a senior capacity in the Patent Information Systems, Nagpur for almost two decades. He has received training in Patent Information at Moscow and The Hague (EPO).

Currently with SEARCH, an NGO at Gadachiroli, Dr. Paranjpe works on health issues.

Ms. Pratibha Singh
Ms Singh is a rank holding Law graduate from Bangalore University and thereafter completed her LL.M from Cambridge University, U.K. Ms Singh has appeared in leading cases both in the High Court of Delhi and the Supreme Court of India in the field of intellectual property. Ms. Singh is an advisor in the area of intellectual property, Information Technology laws, Domain name disputes etc and has experience of many arbitration cases. She is also on the panel of experts of the CII for IT laws and IPR laws.

A keen writer who has co-authored articles for the Journal of International Arbitration published from The Hague, Ms Singh is also a regular speaker who has presented papers at for a including the Indian Institute of Science, CII, ASSOCHAM, Association of British Scholars, IIT etc.

Mr. Majumdar has a Science and Law background, and is a leading Patent & Trademark attorney with over two decades of experience. A registered Patent Agent, Mr. Majumdar is a senior partner/principal Attorney of a reputed Calcutta based IP law firm, and has long experience in handling IP litigation at tribunals and Civil courts. Mr. Sanjay Kher

Dr. (Mrs.) S Venkatramani
Dr. Venkatramani has obtained her PhD in Plant Physiology and Bio-chemistry from the University of Bangalore. After having served as a Lecturer, she joined Hindustan Lever ltd. as a Research Scientist. Dr.Venkatramani is presently the Patent Manager at Hindustan Lever Ltd., Mumbai and is responsible for the patent management of a large and diverse range of products at Hindustan Lever ltd.

Dr. Venkatramani is a registered Patent Agent, and a frequent Speaker on IP/Patenting issues at various forums.

Mrs. Usha A Chandrashekhar
She is a practicing attorney specializing in Intellectual Property. Her work includes functions such as Drafting of patent specifications, IP management, etc.

Ms Chandrashekhar holds a Masters degree in Applied Biology (Cytogenesis),, and is a recipient of the Sir James Ewing Scholarship. She has done her L.L.B. from the Government Law College, with Trademark and Patents as optional subjects. After tenures in eminent firms such as Crawford Bayley and Co. Mumbai etc., she set up her own legal practice.

Ms Chandrashekhar has also attended the SEAD course conducted by Le Federation de Internationale Counsiels pour Propertie Industrielle, and has acquired special training in patent specification drafting.

Ms Chandrashekhar is an active member of the Neem Foundation, and has published several papers on the issue of protection of plant varieties and traditional knowledge.

She is also a member of the IPLPA, and has been on the review committee for the bill on Bio-diversity and Plant Varieties

Dr. M.D. Nair
Dr. M.D. Nair, has a Ph.D. Degree from the University of Illinois, USA. He was a Fulbright Scholar, a Fellow of the National Research Council of Ottawa, Canada, Alfred P. Sloan Research Foundation, New York and Research Associate at University of Illinois before joining the Pharmaceutical Research Group of CIBA Limited, Switzerland., and later of Ciba-Geigy Research Centre in Bombay. He worked extensively on New Drug Development, Patents, Documentation and Information Systems and Planning & Control of Production, Marketing and Clinical Trials. He had management education in INSEAD, Fontainbleu, Paris and Management Consultancy Institute in Brussels, Belgium. Dr. Nair, who was later, Vice President of SPIC.

Besides authoring over 80 publications in various national and international journals, he is the holder of several patents on new therapeutic agents and has co-authored three books published by Academic Press, John Wiley, Birkhauser, etc. He is the author of Indian Pharmaceutical Market Guide 1998 published by PJB Publications, London and has contributed to several Text Books On IP Law and Innovation.

He has been a Consultant to WHO for setting up Pharmaceutical Projects in Arab countries and on Traditional Medicines in New Delhi, Bangkok and Jakarta. He has been an Advisor to Government and Private Organisations on Science & Technology, Board of many Pharmaceutical Companies, Governing Councils of various Academic Bodies, Universities & Medical Institutes , Panels of CSIR, ICMR, AICTE, Export Promotion Council of India, Indira Gandhi Open University etc. He is a member of several Committees such as The Mashelkar Committee for restructuring the Indian Drug Regulatory System and developing strategies for eliminating Spurious and Sub-standard drugs and the National Commission On Macroeconomics And Health, Govt Of India.

He is an elected Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering and a Visiting Faculty Member of Management Institutes and Research Institutions in India. He has been an Advisor to Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Task Forces of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat & Kerala States. He has been the recipient of several Awards for his contribution to the Indian Pharmaceutical Industry.

Dr. Prabhudda Ganguli
An M.Sc. in Chemistry from IIT (Kanpur) and Ph.D. from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai in Chemical Physics, he completed his post-doctoral research in Germany and Canada. He was a visiting scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in 1981 before joining Hindustan Lever Ltd. as a Research Scientist.

An elected fellow of the Maharashtra Academy, a recipient of the National Science Talent Scholarship (NSTS) and an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Fellow (Germany), he has several publications in Chemical Physics, Chemical Process, and Specialty Materials. From 1991 to 1996 he was the Head of Information Services and Patents at the Hindustan Lever Research Centre. He has now set up a consulting group to offer services in management of IPR, information security and knowledge management. He is a qualified and a leading patent attorney in India and an expert in IPR and Information Management. He is closely associated with various organizations such as BCCI, CII, ASSOCHAM, OPPI and Administrative Staff College. He has been lecturing at the training programs for Senior Management, National Institutions such as the CSIR, BARC, ICMR, ICAR, ISRO, etc.

He is a member of the International Editorial Board of the IPR journal 'World patent Information' published by Elsevier Science Limited, UK. His book titled 'Gearing Up for Patents - The Indian Scenario' was published by Universities press (an associate of Orient Longman in India) in January 1998. His second book titled 'Intellectual Property Rights…Unleashing the Knowledge Economy' was released in March 2001. He has also contributed chapters on IPR in several books.

Dr. Poonam Raghuvanshi
Dr. Poonam Raghuvanshi holds a post graduate degree in pharmacy and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. In addition, she has completed a Diploma in Business Management. Commencing her career as a Lecturer, Dr. Raghuvanshi moved to corporate R&D, from where she progressed to the intellectual property cell at Ranbaxy Laboratories. Here she has been involved in the areas of business development, Technology assessments, Para IV filings, Patent strategy, giving infringement opinions etc. Currently Dr. Raghuvanshi is the Associate Director, Intellectual Property at Ranbaxy Laboratories.
Dr. Raghuvanshi is a frequent speaker at various Seminars, and is actively involved in the IP training programmes conducted for Ranbaxy colleagues. She has many international publications to her credit, and is the holder of 3 patents.

N R Subbaram
N R Subbaram is a noted IPR Consulatnt, Advocate& Patent Attorney. He is a Former Controller of Patent Office, Govt. of India, as also the Former Head, IPMD, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. Having extensive experience in drafting of patent specifications, and expertise in patent policy, legislation and enforcement, Mr. Subbaram is a consultant to more than 20 major pharma and tech companies. He has piloted the effort to get the U.S. patent on turmeric cancelled, and has established the electronic Indian Patent Database (INPAT). Mr. Subbaram has represented India at various international conferences, and is a speaker at many IPR related workshops and seminars.
